    Great review from someone with an understanding of mechanics and geometry. Bought a 2008 last summer and it’s great at eating up the miles and overtaking’s never a problem when you use second and third. But it is a heavy bike 👍

    I bought one of these in 2019 after seeing in 2010 and instantly making it my dream bike. I adored it. I agree that the cases make it look bulkier, I'd take them off sometimes. I felt like I had unlimited speed (before the VFR1200 I had a Suzuki GS500F 😂 for a decade). I agree that I'd like to have cruise control on it. It's just so dang pretty, but they're rare and owners rarely sell them.

    As a 6 months owner I appreciate your review, but would like to stress the heat problem, on both sides expecially in a warm environment, it's a serious issue even after 10-15 minutes from engine's start. I have the withe version, it looks great with stock fairing, and dash visibility is quite good. Another thing I've found is that DIY maitenance takes longer time compared to other bikes because of the multple layers of fairings to unmounto in order to arrive to air filter. I'll keep it and try to solve the heat problem with a homemade air duct.Thanks

    No ABS. Was ABS an option? Does it have a fuel gauge? What’s the real world range? Where is the choke? How hot does it get in the worst stop-and-go traffic, 180 degrees, 200, 220? Quite a few important and practical bits of information missing here. But it DOES have a Hemi! Some of the technical data provided was useful. So thanks. It looks nice, but I’m not convinced this is truly luxurious by the details. That skid on a wet road would have resulted in a fall.

    • @pegasusmotorcycletours
      @pegasusmotorcycletours 6 днів тому

      Great questions. This is one of my shortest reviews so Im happy you bring g these points up. No ABS or cruise control was ever offered. The range is around 300 miles if getting the top average of 45mpg. No choke - it's EFI.At 75 degrees air temp the bike runs at about 180. At 90 plus degrees air temp the bike runs around 195F. Manageable in any case. Thanks for watching.

    I don't know about the rest of you but, after a long ride, end of the day I'm not making acrobatic jumps off the bike. Here is the other thing, when your bike is over loaded is when shit tends to happen. You have a blowout, heading for what ever obstacle, do you get as far away from the bike or get hung up on gear? Keeping weight low is a plus, but keeping an exit plan can save your life.

    I feel like most of your points against this bike are moot and mostly just not applicable here. The bike is like 20 years old. Even the goldwing back then didn’t have standard cruise? I’m not sure who would have that leaves you expecting such an option?? BMW? Either way simple fix. Your complaint about the responsiveness i also find a bit annoying as you continue on about the shaft drive lol. Of course it’s responsive. You’ll have to get used to it or make it less responsive but who does such a thing? Today the big complaint is throttle lag- just can’t please the masses. You’ve left out some points about this being the first bike optioned with Hondas DCT. This is as a huge tech leap and this bike was the showcase. The single sided swingarm- was this a first for Honda? This thing was way ahead of its time yes but don’t dismiss it’s actual age and the fact that it’s still 100% relevant among todays bikes. A huge feat. Grab any other bike from this year and see if it keeps up. I say it’s amazing and I’ve always wanted one. Will have one

    • @pegasusmotorcycletours
      @pegasusmotorcycletours 10 днів тому

      Thanks for participating in the conversation. Goldwings from 20 years ago in fact came with cruise control (and were using shaft drives in the 70s - Ive had two fisrt gen wings and have reviewed them here if younare curious about the technology introduced.. So this bike didn't do anything new there). The responsiveness has nothing to do with shaft drives, its more about the ignition system and mapping so I'm not understanding the connection you are pointing at there. I didn't have the dct version so I can comment but by 2012 when it came out, the throttle was made better and traction control made available - another key thing all sport tourers need to have in my opinion. It is indeed a fantastic bike and a great bang for the buck, sp I actually still ride it. If you are ever I. SD reach out and Take a spin. Cheers. Nik

    Out of interest, how would you rate the G650X smaller brother, the G450X, let say rate it for the same use case as the 650's? I remember back in the day quite a number of people picked the DRZ400 for touring over the DR650 cause of the better suspension. What I didn't like of the DRZ was the loud exhaust from factory.

    Just my opinion but I think overal best dual sport is still DR650, you can make it suit your needs it best. If need more power then XR650R but it needs some mods like e-start, but not mandatory. Also KLR is good pick or XR650L.

      @Veksi8 15 днів тому

      @@pegasusmotorcycletours I love DR, but its too low for me stock. XR650R is perfect, but lacking e-start in hard situations can turn it horrible situations. Also exotic bikes like xr650r and that bmw can be problem compared to dr and klr. Gen 1 klr is a bit lighter but still heavy.

    Do you still have it? I'm considering in these days to get one, with DCT (I already have experience with it and I love it, I would just miss the riding modes). How confortable can it be for a 5 11 person?

    In regards to the keys for the luggage - I suggest going to a locksmith and having him make three keys with only the part that you need and maybe 2:45 eighths of an inch worth of haft beyond it. Then go to Home Depot and buy yourself some plastic end caps. Fill those in gaps with epoxy and stick those keys in with the sunk into the epoxy. Once they’re firmly dried, go stick the keys into the luggage and you now have a very discreet set of knobs that you can use to open your luggage. I did this on my concours because I got tired of having to fish the key out of the key fob.

    I once owned a 2007 Yammie 1100cc V-Star custom, I traded it in for a 2015 Harley Heritage Softail Classic 1700cc, but that was just a natural progression for Me as I've always been a Harley fan, I've also owned a Yammie Midnight Special 1000cc in the past which was the forerunner to the Virago & a Harley Softail Standard as well as a Roadking, I like all Bikes really not just the one brand, I like Cruisers the best but to each his own I guess, but I have to be honest, I think that My old V-Star custom was the most easiest Bike to handle & the most comfortable Bike to ride out of all of the Bikes I've ever owned, it only weighed about 287kgs dry weight, that's about 631•4lbs where as My Heritage Softail weighs 336kgs dry weight, that's 739•2lbs the trouble is, at almost 74 years of age now & at the moment, I myself, only weigh 50kgs wringing wet, that's about 110lbs, so I often worry about will I be able to pick it up if I'm ever on My own sometime & I happen to drop it, not all Bikes come with crashbars so they will go all the way to the ground when dropped, the one thing that nobody thinks about when We buy a Bike is that just about all Bikes are going to weigh a lot more than We do ourselves, maybe part of the buying process should be to have a Bike, either of the same or greater weight than the one You're going to buy, laid down & see if you can pick it up by yourself first, what do You think?

      You just elaborated the first law of motorcycle touring and especially.adve ture touring... ride a bike you can pick up when you drop it. I lost clients this way train8ng them for trips but after seeing they were not going to get to the point of picking up their chosen bike, they usually didn't want to have their minds changed. If you can't pick it up, find something more suitable...is my suggesti9n to any rider. Thanks for participating in the conversation.

      This guy thanks you for watching and respectfully reminds that all we have is a subjective experience of reality.

    • @paulfarcas1514
      @paulfarcas1514 21 день тому

      @pegasusmotorcycletours you've just killed objectivism in your MBA framed perception... and then there's the level of experience on top of that. Like the fact that 100 miles bikes are still in the run in period and are clunky as hell, especially Kawasaki. Let's not walk around the subject, but if introspection would be one of your strong suits, you'd realise that your evaluation of this motorcycle is probably amateur at best and probably putting off less experienced people from a bike that is otherwise one of the best and friendliest sport tourers on the market.
